Nykarleby offers numerous opportunities for recreation, sports and other activities, not least accessible through our wide range of clubs and associations which many of our residents are engaged in, for example a variety of sports, and cultural activities.
Stjärnhallen is one of the most modern multi-sport arenas in our region having full-scale facilities for floorball, a gym, a throwing /range and a running track some 60 metres long. The ice-skating hall, the sports fields, the stables, the skiing and running tracks and the Munsalagården offer many opportunities for an active outdoor life, for elite athletes as well as everyday fitness activities.
Several annual events take place in Nykarleby, for example Finland's largest car-boot and jumble sale, Juthbackamarknaden, which attracts some 30,000 visitors, and is held in August in the grounds of the Juthbacka manor.
In May, the action-packed soapbox races are held, which are among the most popular in Finland.
Among other events arranged during the summer months are the American car meeting at Juthbacka, the charming rowing festival Monäs-rodden for old rustic boats, and the Culture week with many interesting activities and arrangements.
Located some little distance from the town centre is the equestrian centre which has an indoor ring, outdoor riding fields and a riding-school.
At the end of January each year, the town's active athletes meet to compete in a sports gala.
Among other events are: Celebrations on the 1st of May at the Nykarleby historical railway, the Fishing event in Vexala, the Village community festival in Jeppo, the Topelius festival, and the Swedish Day celebrations.
