Exhibition- ”Topelius sagoland”. Among the artist Alexander Reichstein’s full-size models inspired by the stories of Zacharias Topelius, children can play around and explore. Open until November 30th.

The childhood home of Zacharias Topelius, Kuddnäs, re-opens for the season after its restoration. Open daily until August 31st and according to agreement. 15.5–31.5 at 10–16, 1.6–31.7 at 10–18, 1.8–31.8 at 12-17. For more information: nykarleby.fi/kultur-and-fritid/kuddnas/

August 10th
The Society of Swedish Litera-ture in Finland organizes a seminar about Topelius. Also the release of two new editions of Topelius’ writings: ”Dagböcker 1832–1840, 1842” and ”Föräldrakorrespondensen”. At Juthbacka. Open for everyone, prior notification. Free of charge. Information: sls.fi.

August 10th
Jubilee dinner in the spirit of Topelius at Juthbacka herrgård at 19:00. A menu inspired by Nykarleby, programme, and dance. Prior notification. Information

August 11th
”A walk in the world of Topelius”. Main celebrations of the jubilee year. Interactive programme. Walking party in the town centre and at Kuddnäs at 14–18.
These celebrations kick-off this year’s Nykarlebyveckan, which is traditionally ending with Juthbacka-marknaden, the largest flea market in the Nordic countries on August 17th–18th.

August 13th
Evening with the author Nalle Valtiala, releasing the book ”Fiskarkrönika 2” about the fisherman Topelius. At the Town Library at 19. Free entrance.

September 15th
Juthbacka Teater performing ”Doktorns pojk”; poetry, songs, and sketches built on the life and production of Topelius. At Scala at 19. Also on September 16th, at 16.

November 15th
Book release: ”Borgarliv I Österbotten del III” at 16 at the Town Library. Free entrance.

December 1st
”Topelius jul”, winter and Christmas songs by Topelius performed at Munsala Church. Choirs and orchestras from Nykarlebynejdens sång- och musikförbund and Jakobstads Sinfonietta. Conductor: Anna-Maria Helsing.

December 11th
“Joulua odotellessa”: sing-along in Finnish at Kuddnäs.
