The fur and pelt industry together with farming and forestry are traditional and prominent industries of Nykarleby.

The Juthbacka cultural centre contributes to the development of creative entrepreneurships by offering a meeting place and platform for the region's artists, designers, craft workers, photographers etc.

Entrepreneurship and business development is included in the curriculum of the upper secondary schools.
